King’s Cup Regatta Phuket
One of the reasons that Phuket Yachting has become so very popular is because of the annual Phuket King’s Cup Regatta. This great annual sailing event is the largest and most popular sailing regatta throughout Asia. The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta was first held for the celebration of the 60th birthday of the Thai King.
The Phuket king’s Cup Regatta falls under the Royal Patronage of his Majesty King Bhumibol who himself is an avid and skilled yachtsman. The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is organized each year by the specially assembled Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organizing Committee who received assistance from the Royal Thai Navy, Thai Yachts Association as well as the Royal Varuna Yacht Club.

Phuket yachting is unfortunately a activity that many Phuket residents and expats simply can't afford. This does not mean however that you won't be able to experience the whole atmosphere and lifestyle that yachting in Phuket offers.
Next time you have a day off please step on your Honda Dream or jump into your Suzuki jeep and drive to the Phuket Boat Lagoon which north of Phuket Town on the East coast of the Island.
Phuket Boat Lagoon
Along the waterfront of the Phuket Boat Lagoon you will find an excellent sandwich shop which has a terrace outside.
The sandwiches are in my opinion the best on the Island and I have heard the same from other expats also. The great thing about the terrace is that you are right next to all the multi million dollar Phuket yachts and you see the ships leaving and arriving.
You really get a taste of the whole Phuket yachting experience and you can sit there all day and still be fascinated by the amazing yachts in the Phuket Boat Lagoon. Many of the skippers and yacht owners go to the sandwich shop before they sail off and they are a nice and friendly group of yachtsmen.
It has happened on numerous occasions that they had a chat with non-yachtsmen at the sandwich shop and ended up taking them along on a cruise of the Andaman.
So going Phuket yachting is possible for anyone. All it takes is a bit of luck and a nice chat!
