Austrian Airlines Cancels Phuket Route
Austrian Airlines To Sell 6 Airbus Aircrafts
Austrian Airlines has announced that they have to take drastic measures due to the terrible financial situation in which the main Airline from Austria has found itself. Austrian Airlines flights to Phuket and Bangkok have been very popular among European tourists visiting Phuket. The Austrian Airlines tickets were among the cheapest of all airlines flying from Europe to Thailand.
Austrian Airlines is planning to stop flying on its Asian routes which include flights to Phuket, Bangkok, Shanghai and Male. Austrian Airlines acknowledges that Austrian Airlines was unable to compete against the major European airlines that have dominated the European - Asia routes for decades.
Austrian Airlines will try to keep the company alive by focussing only on the short haul central and eastern European routes.
Austrian Airlines is also forced to sell of part of its fleet to reduce its debt and therefore Austrian Airlines will be selling of all 6 of its long haul Airbus aircrafts which had been used up until know for the Austrian Airlines flight to Phuket, Bangkok and all other long haul Asian flight routes.
The Austrian Airline has not been able to give the precise date of the last flight between Vienna International Airport and Phuket International Airport. However Austrian Airlines believes that the flight to Phuket, Bangkok and other destinations will be cancelled toward the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2007 or during the second quarter of 2007.
Lauda Air, owned by Austrian Airlines, is also having to take drastic actions as it will stop flying on almost all its Caribbean flight routes.
The Vienna International Airport has also been shocked by the news from Austrian Airlines and Lauda Air. The Austrian airport is now dealing with the fact that the two main airlines that use the Vienna International Airport will drastically cut the number of flights that will arrive and depart from the airport in Vienna.
The bad news from Austrian Airlines could not have come at a worse time as the Vienna International Airport is currently undergoing a large expansion of the airport and the facilities. It now seems that the expansion and the large investment has been a complete waste of time and money as the additional gates and other facilities will not be required by any airline.
The Phuket travel industry has also reacted with shock as few European airlines have been flying to Phuket as most European Airlines only fly into Bangkok. The cancellation of the Austrian Airlines flight to Phuket will certainly affect tourism in a negative way.
