The 2006 Phuket Beach Volleyball Tournament is NOT cancelled!

Beach volleyball organisers deny rumours of cancellation

The FIVB and Pentangle Promotions have just released a statement informing us that the 2006 Phuket Beach Volleyball Tournament will take place as planned.  The Phuket volleyball tournament will kick off on this coming Wednesday and the final will be held on Sunday.

The price pool for this years international Phuket beach volleyball tournament is an impressive 200,000 USD making it one of Thailand's largest sporting events of 2006. This years winner of the Ladies 2006 FIVB Phuket Beach Volleyball tournament will take home a 32.000 USD check.

It is the first time in the history of the FIVB World Tour that one of their tournaments is hosted in Thailand. There is talk however to make the Phuket Beach Volleyball tournament an annual event. Thailand seems to be very happy of the arrival the FIVB Phuket Beach Volleyball Tournament and the Thai beach volleyball association has entered a record breaking six teams which each consist of two Thai beach volleyball players.

Angelo Sqaeo, the events director at the FIVB, was asked where all the rumours in regards to a possible cancellation of the 2006 Phuket Beach Volleyball Tournament had come from as many people had heard this rumour over recent days.

Mr. Sqaep replied to the question as follows:

"The FIVB would like to clarify that contrary to a few articles apparently issued by some Thai media and some rumours spread by unknown sources, the women's event in Thailand is fully confirmed by the FIVB and its organisers."

The volleyball tournament director of the FIVB continued his reply to the question as follows:

"This international event featuring the best women's beach volleyball players in the world is being held in a country which is doing its utmost to rebuild sport activities and tourism atmosphere after the tragedy of tsunami."
